Vol. 446 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tax Rebate.

Ivan Yates

Question:

109 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Finance when a tax rebate will issue to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford. [2325/94]

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer concerned applied for a repayment of tax while unemployed stating on his application that he was in receipt of unemployment benefit, which is a taxable payment. The inspector of taxes advised him on 3 October 1994 that no refund was due to him as his stated unemployment benefit exceeded his weekly taxfree allowance.

However, in response to this inquiry, the inspector has confirmed with the local Department of Social Welfare employment office that the taxpayer is, in fact, in receipt of unemployment assistance which is not taxable. Based on this information the inspector has now dealt with a repayment of tax in the amount of £224.85 which will issue to the taxpayer shortly.
