Vol. 446 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Enterprise Boards.

Ivor Callely

Question:

114 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment his views on the success of the County Enterprise Boards to date; if sufficient funds are available to fund all approved projects; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2096/94]

While it is quite early yet in the development of the county enterprise board system to come to an objective assessment, I am very happy with the progress to date, where £18 million has been committed to more than 2,000 projects with an employment potential of 3,244 full-time and 877 part-time jobs.

County enterprise boards have been given the go-ahead to enter into further commitments which hopefully in the course of time will be converted into sustainable projects giving much needed jobs. Funds are sufficient in 1994 to meet demands as they mature in relation to projects already approved and adequate funds will be available in 1995 to meet liabilities as they arise.
