Vol. 446 No. 4

Written Answers. - Ballaghaderreen (Roscommon) Sewage Treatment Plant.

John Connor

Question:

131 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for the Environment when he will provide funds to upgrade the sewage treatment works at Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon; his views on the necessity to upgrade this plant in view of the fact that its discharge is polluting the River Lung on which there was the most serious fish kill of 1994. [2328/94]

Question:

134 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received a submission from Roscommon County Council seeking approval and grant assistance for the installation of larger aeration equipment for Boyle sewage treatment works, County Roscommon, which is necessary to eliminate an odour problem from the existing works; and if he will provide funding for the proposal in 1995. [2284/94]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 131 and 134 together.

A Preliminary Report for the provision of a new sewage treatment plant at Ballaghadereen is under consideration. Documentation in relation to the installation of additional aeration equipment for Boyle sewerage treatment works was recently received and is under examination.

I intend that application will be made shortly for assistance under the Cohesion Fund for an integrated project which will include both the Ballaghadereen and the Boyle schemes.
