Vol. 446 No. 5

Written Answers. - Powers of Traffic Wardens.

Godfrey Timmins

Question:

20 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has to reform the law to allow traffic wardens to prosecute jaywalkers and car users driving in bus lanes. [115/94]

I have no proposals to extend the range of offences in respect of which traffic wardens may issue "on-the-spot fine" notices. The offences covered at present are those which carry registered owner liability and which do not involve the exercise of powers to stop vehicles or pedestrians; wardens do not have such powers.
