Vol. 446 No. 5

Written Answers. - Women's Aid Funding.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

138 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Health if he intends to support the request by Women's Aid for a budget increase to help them develop the free-phone national helpline service and the community based outreach services which they feel are essential to reach people suffering from violence. [2448/94]

I have recently received a copy of Women's Aid pre-budget submission which seeks funding for, inter alia, a freephone National Helpline Service and community based “Out Reach Services”. I note that the Department of Social Welfare is already contributing towards the cost of the National Helpline Service. I am arranging to have the other elements of their proposals examined within my Department and I will communicate with Women's Aid in due course.
