Vol. 446 No. 6

Written Answers. - Natural Gas Grid Extension.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

175 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications in view of the development of the border region, if he will have the natural gas network expanded throughout Cavan and Monaghan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2772/94]

Bord Gáis Éireann has a statutory obligation to develop and maintain a system for the supply of natural gas on a commercial basis and any proposals for extension of the gas grid are assessed by the board in the light of that obligation. Only projects which meet the board's economic criteria are undertaken. The board is at all times anxious to identify viable markets for gas and potential markets are always kept under review.
