Vol. 446 No. 6

Written Answers. - Government Jet.

John Bruton

Question:

17 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Defence the plans, if any, he has to create an expenditure subhead for use of the Government jet in the estimates for his Department for 1995. [2038/94]

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

20 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Defence the cost per flying hour of the Gulfstream 4 and Beechcraft aircraft taking account of capital costs, maintenance costs, personnel costs and fuel; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2613/94]

I propose to take Question Nos. 17 and 20 together.

Expenditure arising from the operation of Air Corps aircraft, including the Government jet, is charged to the appropriate subheads of the Defence Estimate. These subheads include subheads B and C in respect of Air Corps personnel costs and subhead T in regard to fuel. This practice has proved to be satisfactory in the past and I have no plans to alter the existing arrangements.
The estimated flying costs are £670 per hour and £250 per hour in respect of the Gulfstream IV and Beechcraft aircraft respectively.
