Vol. 446 No. 6

Written Answers. - Naval Service Recruits.

Peadar Clohessy

Question:

132 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for the Defence his views on whether the fact that when the Naval Service recently advertised four posts in the executive branch to be filled by direct entry, very few applications were received and none were found suitable reflects badly on the pay and conditions under which members of our Naval Service must serve. [2802/94]

The pay and conditions of the Defence Forces, including of the Naval Service, were reviewed as recently as 1990 by the Commission of Remuneration and Conditions of Service in the Defence Forces. The recommendations therein relating to remuneration have been approved and implemented. In addition, there has been further enhancement by the additions provided for under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress.
