asked the
Minister for the
Defence, in respect of FCA and Slua Muirí personnel, the sum allocated in the 1994 estimates for clothing; the clothing that may be provided to personnel after one year's satisfactory service; whether such clothing is available at unit level in 7, 8, and 14 battalions, Nos. 1 & 6 Field MP Companies and No. 1 Company Slua Muirí; the reason FCA female members are not entitled to PDF-style headgear; whether greatcoasts are on the clothing scale; if so, the numbers issued in those units in 1993 and to date in 1994; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The provision in the 1994 Vote for Defence in respect of clothing for the Reserve Defence Force is £575,000 approximately. The following statement sets out the articles of clothing issuable to FCA and Slua Muirí recruits and includes the additional articles of clothing issuable to FCA recruits on satisfactory completion of one year's service and on qualification for retention on the effective strength of An Fórsa. All of these articles of clothing are available for issue in the units specified. The number of greatcoats-overcoats issued to the members of these units was 324 in 1993 and 257 to date in 1994. In the interests of conformity the head-dress issuable to female members of An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil is the same as that issuable to male members.

(a) A free replacement issue may, on the certificate of the Company Commander, be made to a non-commissioned officer or Private who expends his field dressing in rendering first aid treatment.
(b) One pair of gymnasium shoes may be issued to each non-commissioned officer or Private who undergoes a Physical Training Leaders' Course of Instruction.
(c) Issuable to non-commissioned officers and Privates of the Artillery Corps only.
(d) Issuable to non-commissioned officers and Privates of the Military Police Corps only.
(e) One Cap. Red Band for use by personnel of the Military Police Corps when on Military police duty, may be issued in addition to one Cap (general pattern). Replacement of one type cap only, at the public expense, may be made every three years.
(f) These articles shall be withheld pending completion by a recruit of one year's satisfactory service and his having qualified for retention on the effective strength in accordance with the terms of paragraph 38 of these Regulations.
