Vol. 446 No. 7

Written Answers. - Shellfish Licence.

Donal Carey

Question:

138 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for the Marine the current position regarding the application of a company (details supplied) in County Clare for a shellfish aquaculture licence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2912/94]

The duration and the outcome of the decision making process in applications for licences to engage in aquaculture varies depending on the technical considerations and particular local circumstances involved. The evaluation of proposals from technical, scientific and other perspectives is also informed by a public consulative procedure including advertising in the local and national press.

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that the assessment of the application in question has advanced to the point where the company can now proceed to advertise their proposals. Subject to satisfactory completion of this process the licensing application will be finalised as quickly as possible.
