Vol. 446 No. 7

Written Answers. - Chemotherapy Treatment.

Seán Haughey

Question:

181 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Health the locations at which chemotherapy treatment is available to cancer patients from the Dublin area at present; if he will provide additional chemotherapy facilities on Dublin's northside, in Beaumont Hospital for example; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2890/94]

Chemotherapy treatment is available to cancer patients in the following Dublin Hospitals: Adelaide, Beaumont, Coombe, Mater Misericordiae, National Maternity, Holles Street, National Children's, Harcourt Street, Our Lady's Hospital, Crumlin, St. James's, St. Michael's, St. Vincent's, Temple Street.

Beaumont Hospital at present provides a limited chemotherapy service for some patients with colon and breast cancer. The hospital is currently preparing a development plan and the adequacy of the present chemotherapy service will be addressed in this context. I will consider the requirement for an expansion of the existing chemotherapy service, in the context of the hospital's overall service priorities, when the hospital submits its development proposals to me.
