Vol. 446 No. 7

Written Answers. - Limerick Alzheimer Society.

Michael Noonan

Question:

182 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Health the reason he refused a grant to the Limerick branch of the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland in respect of their respite centre at Adare, County Limerick; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2943/94]

The Limerick branch of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland have not made an application for funding to my Department. However, the Mid-Western Health Board inform me that they provided £15,000 in lottery funding to the organisation this year. These funds are to assist in the development of the new premises at Adare as a Day Centre for Alzheimer patients. The health board are also funding a Day Centre for the Elderly which the Alzhemier Society run in Limerick City.

I might add that in July this year I allocated £20,000 in lottery funding to the Alzheimer Society of Ireland.
