Question:

110 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Social Welfare the amounts paid in rent subsidies during the year 1993 and to date in 1994 in each health board area. [3244/94]

Expenditure data in relation to rent supplements is not available for 1993 on a health board basis; however, national expenditure on rent supplements in 1993 is estimated at £38.7 million.

A new statistical system for the supplementary welfare allowance scheme was introduced on a phased basis in 1993 and is now fully operational in seven health boards. The North-West-ern Health Board provides similar statistical data from its own computer system.

Expenditure on rent supplements on a health board basis is available from January 1994 up to the end of July 1994 and is shown in the following tabular statement:
