Vol. 447 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Ballybeg (Waterford) Garda Station.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

114 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Justice if she will consider the designation of a Garda sub-station in the Ballybeg/St. Pauls Parish area of Waterford city to combat the increase in crime and vandalism in the area. [3005/94]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the Ballybeg/St. Paul's Parish area is policed by the gardaí from Waterford station. The current manpower at this station is 112. The Garda authorities inform me that a community garda has been assigned to full-time community policing duties in the St. Paul's area and another to the Ballybeg area within the past year. The gardaí report that the introduction of neighbourhood policing has proved to be effective in meeting the policing needs of these areas.

There are no plans to open a new Garda station in the Ballybeg/St. Paul's Parish area but the policing arrangements for this area will be kept under continuing review and any changes considered necessary will be made.
