Vol. 447 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Bicycles Lamps.

Seán Haughey

Question:

118 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Justice if she has satisfied herself that the law which requires cyclists to have lamps on their bikes after daylight hours is complied with and enforced by the gardaí. [3032/94]

I am satisfied that the legal provisions which require cyclists to have lamps on their bikes after daylight hours are enforced by the gardaí. Indeed, enforcement of the legislation is given a high priority by the gardaí.

The Deputy may wish to note that the Commissioner's Crime Report for 1993 shows that during that year proceedings were taken in 2,126 cases for offences relating to the lighting of pedal cycles.
