Vol. 447 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Court Appearance.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

133 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice the reason a person due to appear in the Central Criminal Court from Mountjoy Prison on 4 October 1994, failed to appear, resulting in the judge sending the jury panel home. [3214/94]

On 4 October 1994, due to an administrative error at the prison, there was a delay of approximately 45 minutes in the production in court of the prisoner referred to by the Deputy. The presiding Judge adjourned the case until the following day when the Deputy Governor of Mountjoy Prison attended the court in order to explain the circumstances which led to the delay. His explanation and expression of regret were accepted by the Judge.
