Vol. 447 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Insurance Commissions.

Richard Bruton

Question:

153 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the way in which he proposes to monitor insurance commissions following the removal of the permitted maximum levels from January 1995; and the steps, if any, he will take to check any such rises. [3100/94]

I do not propose to introduce formal arrangements to monitor non-life insurance commissions.

I am satisfied that, in a situation where consumers have access to appropriate information on commissions, market forces will determine a fair and equitable price for the services provided by non-life insurance intermediaries. Towards this end I have indicated that the removal of the ceiling on non-life commissions must be accompanied by an appropriate form of disclosure.
