Vol. 447 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Registration of Architects.

Richard Bruton

Question:

159 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if legislation for the registration of Architects is currently being prepared; the reason this legislation is not being sponsored by the Department of the Environment; if he will ensure that all professional practices which have applied for inclusion under the EU Architects Directive 85/384 will be circulated with a discussion document dealing with the proposed legislation and that they get the opportunity to participate in a forum for discussion on the proposals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3509/94]

I intend to bring forward legislative proposals for registration of title for architects during the next Dáil session. These proposals are being developed as part of a consumer protection programme. The proposals are also being prepared in consultation with my colleague, the Minister for the Environment.

I have recently issued a discussion document on these proposals and have invited interested parties to submit their views not later than 9 December 1994.
