Question:

172 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment the total amount of money allocated by his Department to each local authority for roads in 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3051/94]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 169, 170, 171 and 172, inclusive, together.

Details of the total grant payments made to local authorities in 1993 for national primary and national secondary roads are set out in the following table. Information on grants paid for non-national roads is contained in the reply to Question No. 137 of 9 February 1994.

It is a matter for county councils to determine the allocation of block grant receipts under the improvement and supplementary improvement categories as between county and regional roads and as between the different categories of works. The special grant payments made in 1993 generally related to the construction of roads or the improvement of existing roads.
