Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - County Kilkenny Children's Hospice.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

27 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Health the proposals, if any, he has to provide funding to the All-Ireland Children's Hospice in Kilkenny in view of the fact that this resource is not in receipt of any form of State funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3646/94]

There is currently no application for funding before my Department on behalf of the All-Ireland Children's Hospice. The question of funding for hospice services in County Kilkenny is, in the first instance, a matter for the South Eastern Health Board. The board has advised me that an unsuccessful application for funding was made to the board by the All Ireland Children's Hospice some years ago. The board considers that the services operated by the home care teams and the paediatric services provide a satisfactory level of hospice care for children in the South Eastern Health Board area. There are, consequently, no plans to provide funding for the organisation referred to by the Deputy.
