Vol. 447 No. 11

Written Answers. - Early Retirement for Principal Teachers.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

149 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Education the proposals, if any, she has for an early retirement scheme for principal teachers in secondary and vocational schools and in community schools and colleges. [1028/95]

The three teacher unions have submitted a joint claim to the teachers' conciliation council seeking that teachers, including principal teachers, be entitled to retire from teaching service on a pension from 50 years of age on the basis of accrued pension with ten years' enhancement. In accordance with an agreement reached between all sides on the processing of the claim all outstanding aspects of the claim are currently being examined by a working group of the teachers' conciliation council. As the proceedings of the teachers' concilation council are confidential it would be inappropriate for me to comment further.
