Vol. 447 No. 11

Written Answers. - Dundalk (Louth) School Liaison Scheme.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

154 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Education if favourable consideration will be given to including, in the home school community liaison scheme the Rodomeer Boys and Girls national school, Dundalk, County Louth and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1038/95]

The schools referred to by the Deputy currently have disadvantaged area status and as such are in receipt of special additional teaching posts and supplementary capitation funding at a rate of £17 per pupil. Schools which have been given disadvantaged area status are eligible to be considered for inclusion in the home/school/community liaison scheme. Schools are selected for inclusion in this scheme on the basis of priority of need.

In the current school year an additional 15 co-ordinators were appointed to the home/school/liaison scheme and this facilitated the extension of the scheme to a further 29 primary schools. I am keeping the question of further expansion of the scheme under ongoing review and the needs of the schools mentioned by the Deputy will be considered in the context of any future development undertaken in this area.
