Vol. 447 No. 11

Written Answers. - Waiting Times for School Transport.

Jim Higgins

Question:

161 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Education her Department's guidelines regarding waiting times for primary school transport services and post-primary school transport services. [1109/95]

The guidelines for waiting times are agreed between my Department and Bus Éireann, which manages and operates the school transport scheme as the agent of the Department. Bus Éireann makes the detailed operational arrangements on the ground, and plans routes in such a way as to ensure that most primary school children will have no more than one and a half hours' waiting and travelling time daily. In the case of post-primary services, routes are planned, in conjunction with the transport liaison officer, so as to ensure as far as possible that no pupil will have more than three hours' travelling and waiting time daily.
