Vol. 447 No. 11

Written Answers. - Funding for 50 Metre Swimming Pool.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

164 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education if she will provide part funding for a 50 metre swimming pool complex proposed by the Dublin International Sports Council which has formally sought such funding; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1260/95]

My Department has not received an application for funding from the Dublin International Sports Council in respect of its proposed 50 metre swimming pool complex. I am, however, aware of their proposals for the provision of such a facility.

In June 1994, my Department commissioned a feasibility study to examine all the options for the provision of a national 50 metre swimming pool complex to cater for the training needs of Ireland's swimmers and for national and international competitions in addition to serving as a community facility. The feasibility report which was completed in November, 1994, is under consideration in my Department. The Dublin International Sports Council's proposals for a 50 metre swimming pool complex will be considered in the context of my Department's consideration of the feasibility study.
