Vol. 447 No. 11

Written Answers. - Identity Number for Teachers.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

176 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Education whether there is an identity number or letter for each primary teacher on the payroll to indicate her or his year of graduation from education college; and, if so, the number of 1990 graduates who are currently working as temporary or permanent national school teachers; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1387/95]

Each year my Department allocates teacher numbers to the graduates from the teacher training colleges. This number may then be used in all correspondence with the Department and for payroll purposes. While the number does contain a letter character it does not in any way indicate the year of graduation. Regrettably the information sought by the Deputy is therefore not readily available in my Department.
