Vol. 447 No. 11

Written Answers. - Recruitment of Psychiatrists.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

177 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Education whether the ten psychologists referred to as currently being recruited in her reply to Parliamentary Question No. 127 of 19 October 1994, have yet taken up work; if so, where they are, or will be, posted; if not yet in place, when they will take up work; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1388/95]

The ten psychologists referred to by the Deputy have not as yet taken up duty in my Department. Offers of appointment have been made to the eight candidates who have so far been cleared for appointment by the Civil Service Commission. Following on these offers of appointment it is expected that the majority will take up duty within the next month.

It is expected that the ten psychologists will be posted to the following areas: Dublin 5, Cork 2, Limerick 2, Tullamore 1. In addition to the ten psychologists referred to above, it is planned to recruit a further ten psychologists in 1995.
