Vol. 447 No. 11

Written Answers. - Law and Order Problems.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

205 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Justice, in view of continuing law and order problems at a national school (details supplied) in Dublin 15, if she will discuss these matters with the Garda Commissioner with a view to adopting appropriate measures; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1065/95]

I have received a detailed report from the Garda authorities in this matter. I note from the report that the majority of those most actively involved in criminal behaviour have been brought before the courts or, alternatively, dealt with under the provisions of the Juvenile Diversion Programme. The school in question and the general location is receiving ongoing attention from the local Crime Prevention Unit, which was established last month, and the Neighbourhood Policing Unit, the strength of which will be increased with effect from today. I understand that the Principal of the school in question recently expressed his satisfaction at the level of attention accorded by the gardaí to the situation.
