Vol. 447 No. 11

Written Answers. - Farm Pollution Scheme.

Michael Ahern

Question:

260 Mr. M. Ahern asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry in relation to the control of farm pollution scheme, if 400 gallons divided into quota covers all the female animals on the farm. [1484/95]

Farm enterprises are allocated "units" on the basis listed on the application form which are used to calculate the rate of grant applying to each application. The "Units" for a dairy enterprise are calculated as follows:—

(i) The permanent milk quota on the holding is divided by 400 to establish the number of units applying to the permanent quota.

(ii) Where other milk is being produced on the holding the permanent quota is divided by 844 (the national average dairy yield per cow in 1993) to establish the number of cows required to produce that quota. This is then deducted from the total number of cows on the holding. The "Unit" applying to the balance is 1 unit per cow, including suckler cows over two years, and 0.6 units for younger female animals over six months which are not producing milk.
