Vol. 447 No. 11

Written Answers. - Unestablished Civil Servants.

Bertie Ahern

Question:

58 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the names of all unestablished civil servants appointed since 15 December 1994, including programme managers, special advisers and other staff; and the salaries, duties and terms of appointment of these appointees. [1465/95]

No new unestablished civil servants have been appointed to my private office since 15 December 1994. The staff sanctioned by the previous Minister for Finance have been reappointed on the same salaries and conditions as previously sanctioned. The following appointments have been made by the Ministers of State at my Department.

Minister of State, Deputy Joan Burton has appointed a personal assistant, Ms Dorothy Hayden, at an annual salary of £14,280 and a civilian driver, Mr. Fran Fotrell, at an annual salary of £12,927. Minister of State, Deputy Joan Burton also intends to appoint a special adviser, Ms Ita Mangan. The terms and conditions of this appointment are currently being finalised with the Department of Finance.

Minister of State, Deputy Gay Mitchell has not made any appointments to his private office at that Department. There have been no press staff appointed to any of the offices.

In addition to the appointments in the ministerial offices, there have been two further appointments of unestablished civil servants since 15 December 1994. Two temporary clerical assistants, on the appropriate point of the clerical assistant scale, have been employed in the Cork Passport Office on a four month contract to assist with the increased seasonal demand in that office.
