Returns received from housing authorities show the number of units of accommodation provided by them for elderly persons as follows:

1989

224

1990

In addition 1,116 units of accommodation for the elderly have been provided in the same period under the voluntary housing capital assistance scheme. Information in respect of 1994 is not yet available.
The funding for the 1995 local authority housing construction programme and the capital assistance scheme is £155.5 million and £15 million, respectively. Housing for the elderly will be financed through these provisions but the number of units provided, and their cost, will not be known until after the year's end.
