Vol. 448 No. 6

Written Answers. - Mature Student Grants.

Robert Molloy

Question:

155 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Education if she will remove the requirement that mature student grants are not paid to the holders of the higher diploma in education; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2744/95]

Under the terms of the higher education grants scheme candidates who already have an undergraduate qualification or who have secured a post graduate qualification in Ireland are not eligible for grant-aid in respect of a second period of attendance at the same level. These conditions apply so that limited resources can be directed to assist students to undertake such studies for the first time.

I have no plans to alter the grant scheme provisions in this regard.
