Vol. 448 No. 6

Written Answers. - EU Entry Visa.

Noel Davern

Question:

185 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Justice the Government's view on Article 100C of the Maastricht Treaty which requires the EU to agree a format for visas for entry to the EU; and the countries to which she has submitted for requirement of a visa. [2709/95]

Article 100C of the treaty establishing the European Union provides that the Council, acting on a proposal from the Commission and after consulting the European Parliament, shall determine the third countries whose nationals must be in possession of a visa when crossing the external borders of the member states. In addition, Article 100C provides that the Council, acting on a proposal from the Commission and after consulting with the European Parliament, shall adopt measures in relation to a uniform format for visas. The Commission has made proposals in both of these matters which are being examined. I attach a list of the countries, proposed by the Commission, whose nationals should be required to possess a visa.
