Vol. 448 No. 6

Written Answers. - Workforce Mobility.

Liam Hyland

Question:

203 Mr. Hyland asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment his views on whether job opportunities in future will in many instances require a mobile workforce for which a car will be a necessary requirement; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2768/95]

I do accept that increased geographical mobility does enhance a person's prospects of finding a job and that, for many people, particularly those living in rural areas, the use of a car is essential.

The Government is committed to doing all it can not only to improve the climate for job creation and growth but to seek to improve all relevant conditions for those seeking employment. This includes the work being undertaken by my Department to contain car insurance costs which were reported to the House on 2 February 1995 by my colleague, the Minister for Commerce, Science and Technology.
