Vol. 448 No. 6

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 30.

Before proceeding to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a number of related notices under Standing Order 30 dealing with two different topics. I propose to deal with them separately and I will call the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office. I call Deputy Séamus Brennan to state the matter of which he has given notice to me.

I request the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 30 to debate a matter of public importance, the urgent need for the Government to formally protest to the French authorities over their refusal to grant a new route to Irish ferries for operation this summer to and from northern France, and ask if the Government will, today, lodge its support for the company with the European Union Commission, and if it will take reciprocal action if and when that becomes necessary.

Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be one contemplated by the Standing Order, therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion. I call on Deputy Máire Geoghegan-Quinn to state the matter of which she has given me notice.

I request the Adjournment of the Dáil to discuss a matter of specific and important public interest, the urgent necessity for the Minister for Health to take immediate action to allay parental and public concern regarding the incidence of meningitis.

Having considered the matter carefully I do not consider it to be one contemplated by the Standing Order. Therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
