Vol. 448 No. 6

Written Answers. - Second Level Places.

Micheál Martin

Question:

26 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education the action, if any, she will take to resolve the crisis in the Ballyphehane, Togher and Greenmount catchment areas of Cork City in relation to the lack of first year second level places in view of the fact that there are currently up to thirty children with no places available to them in this area and as this is causing anxiety to the parents concerned. [2613/95]

I am aware that there are a number of boys in the Ballyphehane, Togher and Greenmount areas who have not yet secured a place in a post-primary school for September 1995.

An official from my Department visited the area recently to assess the extent of the problem and explore possible solutions.

I can assure the Deputy and the parents of the boys in question that places will be available for all pupils in September 1995.
