Mary Harney

Question:

4 Miss Harney asked the Taoiseach the plans, if any, he has to meet with the Council for the Status of Women with a view to discussing their possible participation in the Social Partnership. [2550/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 3 and 4 together. I have not received a request to meet with either organisation to date. However, I am very willing to do so.

I am sure the organisations will be delighted to hear that. Has the Taoiseach received a request from the Irish National Organisation for the Unemployed to be included in his new nominees to the National Economic and Social Council and has he given consideration to that request?

I believe I have and I am giving consideration to it.

I urge the Taoiseach to meet with both of these organisations and to have them included. They exclusively represent important groups in our society and I would like the Taoiseach to give consideration, first, to meeting them soon and not to wait for a letter asking for a meeting but to invite them, as I believe he did with other organisations when he took office. Second, will the Taoiseach have representatives from the Council for the Status of Women and the Irish National Organisation for the Unemployed appointed to NESC?

I would be delighted to meet them as soon as arrangements can be made.
