Vol. 449 No. 1

Written Answers. - Knocklyon (Dublin) Community School.

Alan Shatter

Question:

140 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction the construction of Knocklyon community school in view of the response prepared by the Knocklyon Post-primary Committee to the Bannon report; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3219/95]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 136 of 31 January 1995, where I stated that I had no plans to alter my decision not to proceed with the construction of a post-primary school for Knocklyon.

My decision was taken in the light of the conclusions and recommendations of the independent report carried out by Dr Michael Bannon of the Service Industries Research Centre, UCD.

The response to the Bannon report prepared by the Knocklyon Post-Primary Committee has been forward to my Department. While I appreciate the work which the committee has put into preparing this response, the points put forward are not such, in my view, as would support the rejection of Dr. Bannon's central recommendations.
