Written Answers. - Recruitment of Prison Officers.

Michael Creed

Question:

154 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Justice the progress to date with regard to recruitment of prison officers as a result of the most recent examination conducted; the number of candidates invited for interview; and if any candidate has been called out of sequence with regard to his achievements in the original examination. [3015/95]

I understand that 156 candidates have been appointed to the Prison Service from this competition. A further 41 candidates are due to be appointed next month.

I am informed by the Civil Service Commission that, to date, 855 candidates have been called for competitive interview in order of merit based on their performance at the written examination. The remaining candidates qualified by the Civil Service Commission from the 855 interviewed will be offered appointment, to the extent necessary to fill available vacancies.
