Vol. 449 No. 1

Written Answers. - EU Quotas.

Paul Bradford

Question:

212 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cork has a suckler cow quota of only ten animals in view of the fact that he feels his quota should be 40; if an error has been made in the processing of this quota; when it will be rectified; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3147/95]

The person named has established a suckler cow quota of ten based on the number of cows on which he was paid premium under the 1992 suckler cow premium scheme. Under EU regulations this was the maximum he was entitled to as payment of suckler cow premium to small scale milk producers was limited to ten animals.

My Department has no record of an application from him for an extra quota from either the special reserve for small scale milk producers or the main 1993 national reserve.

He may apply for a quota from the 1994 national reserve and I have arranged to have an application form sent to him when they become available in about three weeks time.

Question:

213 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he has satisfied himself that sufficient staff are available in his Department to deal with and finalise the transfer of milk quotas; and if a person (details supplied) in County Cork who has applied for such a transfer will have this transfer sanctioned before the end of the current milk year. [3155/95]

I am satisfied that sufficient staff is available in my Department to process the transfers of milk quotas, on foot of applications received under the provisions of the European Communities (Milk Quota) Regulations, 1994. All valid applications for 1994-95 transfers, supported by the documentation required under the above-mentioned regulations, will be processed before the end of the current milk year. The particular application referred to by the Deputy is at present under examination by my Department.
