Vol. 449 No. 1

Written Answers. - Burtonport (Donegal) Harbour.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

224 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for the Marine if his attention has been drawn to the difficulty being experienced by the fishing community in Burtonport, County Donegal in view of inadequate dredging of the harbour; the present position regarding further dredging efforts there; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3270/95]

I am aware that the drilling, blasting and dredging project at Burtonport is considerably behind schedule and this is causing difficulties for the local fishermen. Every effort is being made by the Department of the Marine to complete this project satisfactorily and as soon as possible. To this end a meeting is due to be held with the project contractor within the next few days to expedite the matter. Local fishery interests will be kept informed of developments.
