Vol. 449 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Mary Flaherty

Question:

22 Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will extend to recipients of disability benefit and invalidity pension the right to payment for dependants who are at full-time education up to the age of 21 to bring them in line with assistance payments and other pensions. [3129/95]

Child dependant increases are payable with invalidity pension in respect of children in full-time education up to the age of 21. In this year's budget, I have extended the age at which child additions paid with invalidity pension and other long term payments are made, for those up to age 22 in full-time education.

Child dependant allowances paid with short term payments, including disability benefit, are payable up to the age of 18 years. However, a person who has been in receipt of disability benefit for 12 months and who is likely to remain incapable of work for a further 12 months may qualify for invalidity pension and thereby receive increases for children up to the age of 22 years in full-time education.
