Vol. 449 No. 1

Written Answers. - Registration of Surgeon.

Michael Ring

Question:

65 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health the present position in relation to a person (details supplied) in County Mayo who is a general surgeon holding a full Irish passport and who wishes to be registered so that he can practice in this country; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3049/95]

Limerick East): The Medical Council is now processing this person's application for temporary registration which will be granted subject to verification of all documents and qualifications. This will enable the person to practice in this country. To obtain permanent registration, a doctor who has not qualified in Ireland must work here for a minimum period of 208 weeks and must either have a post-graduate qualification or sit and pass an exam set by the Medical Council.
