Vol. 449 No. 1

Written Answers. - Appointment.

Willie O'Dea

Question:

77 Mr. O'Dea asked the Minister for Health if he will accede to the request by the Mid-Western Health Board to appoint a social worker for people suffering from physical disability in the Mid-West region. [3238/95]

Limerick East): As the Deputy will be aware it is the responsibility of each health agency to submit prioritised manpower proposals to my Department, including details of service requirement and proposed funding arrangements.

My Department has recently received a preliminary submission from the Mid-Western Health Board in relation to the development of services for persons with a physical disability. The Health Estimate for 1995 contains an additional £2 million revenue and £2.5 million capital funding for the development of services throughout the country for persons with physical disability. My Department will now be exploring with the board the question of the appointment of additional staff, including social work staff, having regard to the additional funding of £180,000 allocated to the Mid-Western Health Board this year for the development of services for the physically disabled.
