Vol. 449 No. 2

Written Answers. - Repair and Recycling Enterprise.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

62 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the plans, if any, he has to submit to the Department of the Environment data on the employment potential to be achieved from repair and recycling enterprise in advance of the waste Bill being published; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3404/95]

I share the Deputy's concern that the employment potential to be achieved from repair and recycling enterprise should be maximised.Because of my general concerns in this area I am currently considering the establishment of a Task Force on Industry and the Environment. In that context, I have requested my Department to initiate a process to develop a strategy position on the environmental issues facing enterprise and industry. The goal of this process would be to establish a coherent position which would resolve the conflicts which can emerge and identify the synergies and opportunities for both environment and enterprise. Repair and recycling enterprise is one of the areas where I believe synergies and opportunities exist and this is one of the areas which I will be seeking to have examined.
