Vol. 450 No. 1

Written Answers. - Donegal Castle.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

54 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the funding that will be made available under INTERREG II and the structural funding that will be made available to complete the renovations of Donegal Castle to include renovation of the manor. [2354/95]

No decision has yet been made in regard to specific allocations under INTERREG II. However, the Deputy will be pleased to know that, under the E.U. Operational Programme for Tourism, 1994-1999, I have approved an allocation of £400,000 for completion of the restoration of the O'Donnell Tower by the Office of Public Works.

I understand that some structural support and reconstruction work was carried out to the Manor House over the last few years, and further conservation work will be carried out as necessary.

There are no plans to restore the Manor House as it does not contain any of the important features evident in the O'Donnel Tower.
