Vol. 450 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

61 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Finance the figures indicating the proportion of national lottery grants which went to the Dublin region in each of the years 1989 to 1994 and the proportional figures for the other Irish regions in each of these years. [4754/95]

Information in the form requested is not readily available.

Details of national lottery funded allocations and of actual expenditure by individual Departments for the years 1989-1993 inclusive are contained in the relevant Appropriation Accounts copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. The 1995 Abridged Estimates volume indicates the outturn for 1994. Details will be provided in the Revised Estimates volume and in the Appropriation Accounts.

In relation to lottery funds distributed by my Department, grants amounting to £741,686 were paid in the period 1989-1994 inclusive. Apart from a grant of £250,000 paid to the Institute of European Affairs in Louvain in 1992, all other payments were made to Gaeleagras na Seirbhise Poiblí, which operates through its headquarters in Dublin. Only nominal expenditure arises in other counties in connection with the organising of Irish language classes locally.

The Vote for the Office of Public Works also comes under my responsibility. Lottery funding in the period 1989-1994 amounted to £3.5 million, mainly for conservation works, the breakdown of which between Dublin and other regions was as follows:
