Vol. 450 No. 1

Written Answers. - Report on Crime.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

78 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Justice the progress, if any, to date in implementing the recommendations in the report by the Inter-Departmental Group on Urban Crime and Disorder; the outstanding items to be addressed; when action will be taken on these items; the date for implementation of the report's recommendations; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4730/95]

Implementation of the recommendations in the report involves several Government Departments, and State Agencies as a consequence of the broadly based approach to the problem of Urban Crime and Disorder which was adopted by the Inter-departmental Group.

A number of specific recommendations have already been implemented by Departments and Agencies, including my own Department, since the Group made their report in November, 1992.

I am concerned that certain other recommendations be progressed with a view to the reintegration of the many long term unemployed in the North Clondalkin area generally as well as tackling the many problems arising from the disadvantages and deprivation experienced by the people of the area. With that in mind, the matter is currently receiving urgent attention within my Department.
