Question:85 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will proceed with the implementation of the Protection of Employment Directive by way of primary legislation or by regulation. [4775/95]
Written Answers. - Protection of Employment Directive.
EEC Council Directive No. 75/129/EEC, which relates to collective redundancies, was transposed into national legislation by the Protection of Employment Act, 1977. This directive has now been amended by Council Directive No. 92/56/EEC and this necessitates an amendment to the 1977 Act. A memorandum on the transposition is at an advanced stage of preparation and I will be seeking the authority of the Government for the drafting of a Bill in the very near future.
