Vol. 450 No. 2

Written Answers. - Disabilities Legislation.

Ivor Callely

Question:

50 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the time schedule for the introduction of the disabilities Bill; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4756/95]

As indicated in its policy document, A Government of Renewal, the Government will introduce a disabilities Bill when the Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities has issued its report, which is due at the end of this year. The proposed legislation will set out the rights of persons with a disability together with the means of redress for those whose rights are denied

Pending receipt of the commission's report, it is not possible to draw up a time schedule for the introduction of a disabilities Bill.
