Vol. 450 No. 2

Written Answers. - Health Boards Dispute.

Ben Briscoe

Question:

67 Mr. Briscoe asked the Minister for Health if he will intervene in the dispute between IMPACT and the health boards over the increase being sought by the environmental health officers in their ongoing dispute before official strike action takes place, notice of which has been served. [4899/95]

Limerick East): As I explained quite recently to the House, both the management and staff interests opted to refer this claim to arbitration.

I am aware that environmental health officers have recently completed the process of consulting their union branches on the issue of industrial action. My Department is currently awaiting official confirmation of the outcome of the ballot. It would be entirely inappropriate for me, as Minister for Health, to intervene in an issue which is being pursued through the normal industrial relations procedures.
